Despite all the injury risks at work, it is when you are off work that most accidents occur. Accident insurance provides compensation for large and small accidents alike.
  • Valid around the clock
  • Includes cover for costs arising in conjunction with an accident
  • Can reimburse – often costly – dental injuries
Here you can find out about what is included in the insurance policy. Further information is available in the policy terms and conditions.

If your accidental injury requires treatment by a doctor/nurse/physiotherapist, you receive SEK 700 as a lump sum at the time of your first visit to the doctor. This is intended to cover your immediate expenses for e.g. medical care, treatment and travel during the first year.

If, after twelve months, you still have expenses for ongoing medical care, you will receive compensation for actual medical costs at up to SEK 1 000 per year for a further four years.

If the accidental injury should result in you being registered at a hospital, rehabilitation clinic or short-term accommodation overnight, compensation is paid from the first day for a maximum of 180 days. SEK 200/day at hospital/rehabilitation clinic and SEK 100/day in short-term accommodation.

If the accidental injury results in medical care and at least eight consecutive days of emergency sickness period, SEK 700 is paid in compensation. After this you receive:

  • SEK 700 if you receive treatment for at least a further 7 days
  • SEK 700 if you receive treatment for at least a further 15 days
  • After this, SEK 33 per day from day 31 for a maximum of 150 days

Compensation is paid for required treatment of teeth or dental prostheses that have been damaged in your mouth.

If the accidental injury entails a need for medical rehabilitation outside of the public care services, compensation is paid at up to SEK 1 000 for expenses.

If the accidental injury results in medical treatment, compensation is paid for necessary and reasonable additional costs during the emergency sickness period for:

  • Home help approved by the municipality
  • Foot care and hair care
  • Damaged glasses, hearing aids and clothes
  • Special clothing at a maximum of SEK 10 000
  • Up to two damaged rings made of precious metals or titanium at a maximum of SEK 3 000
  • Other necessary costs at a maximum of SEK 5 000

If you suffer from mental ill health as a direct consequence of an injury that qualifies for compensation in this insurance, you can receive crisis intervention in the form of ten treatments with a therapist or psychologist that we appoint.

The treatment must be approved by us in advance, be carried out in Sweden, commence within one year and conclude within three years from the time of the injury. We also reimburse reasonable and necessary travel costs up to a total of SEK 4,000, as well as costs for an interpreter. Crisis intervention applies with no excess.

You can also receive crisis intervention following the death of a close relative. For us, a close relative refers to a spouse, registered partner, cohabitant, parent or child. In this context, a child refers to an inheritance-entitled child, a stillborn child delivered at the earliest in the 23rd week of pregnancy, a stepchild or a foster child.

This also applies to grandchildren, i.e. the children of an inheritance-entitled child, stepchild and foster child, as above.

Medical disability is condition entailing a chronic reduction in bodily function. The size of the amount that is paid from the insurance depends on the insured amount and the level of invalidity.

Compensation for scars and invalidity is provided according to Folksam’s established tables. You can see these amounts in detail below.

You can also receive compensation for glasses or contact lenses in the event of a permanent eye injury at up to SEK 7 000, and for disability vehicles up to a maximum of SEK 40 000.

If your accidental injury results in medical care and at least eight consecutive days of emergency sickness period, you will also receive a lump sum compensation according to a table, depending on the nature of the physical injury.

For example, compensation is paid at SEK 3 000 for a fractured femur, SEK 2 000 for concussion and up to SEK 25 000 in the event of paralysis of arms and legs.

In the event of a death as a result of an accident, compensation is paid out to the estate. Compensation amount SEK 50 000.

The entitlement to compensation for financial disability applies when the capacity for work has been reduced by at least half due to an accident, and at least half sickness compensation (no time limit) has been granted by the Swedish Social Insurance Office.

The accidental injury must have resulted in medical disability of at least eight per cent.

The insurance does not pay any compensation if compensation is provided according to the Traffic Damage Act.

Compensation

The size of the compensation is dependent in part on the insured amount you have selected for the insurance policy, as well as on the degree of granted sickness compensation (no time limit) as follows:

  • Half sickness compensation – 50 per cent of the insured amount
  • Three-quarters sickness compensation – 75 per cent of the insured amount
  • Full sickness compensation – 100 per cent of the insured amount

What is an accident?

An accidental injury refers to a physical injury that you suffer as a result of a sudden, unforeseen, external event.

You will receive compensation for direct consequences of such an accidental injury, not for consequences due to other bodily defects.

What is not an accident?

Accidental injury does not include physical injury caused voluntarily or physical injury that has arisen as a result of:
  • Infection by bacteria, virus or other infectious agent – infection due to an insect sting or insect bite, for example TBE or Lyme disease due to a tick bit, although similar may be compensated as accidental injury
  • Infection or poisoning through the consumption of food or drink
  • Intervention, treatment or examination (injury caused during medical treatment) or through the use of medication
  • Wear, overload or over-exertion. Physical injuries that are not normally viewed as an accidental injury include e.g. lumbar pain, slipped disc and muscle strain

General limitations

There are also certain limitations in the event of gross negligence, for compensation in the event of time spent abroad, war, nuclear reaction and certain acts of terrorism.

Terms and conditions (in Swedish)

The insured amount and the extent of the injury affect the compensation you receive if you are affected by scarring.

Calculation example

  • If you have taken out our accident insurance with an insured amount of SEK 1 000 000, and you suffer an accident that results in a scar that is 10 cm long and 2.5 cm wide on your lower arm, the calculation is as follows:

According to the scar table for Lower arms, lower legs, elbows and hands: 0.7 per cent (9-15 cm length / 2-3 cm width) of the insured amount of SEK 1 000 000 = SEK 7 000.
This is how to calculate the compensation that will be paid in the event of scarring based on the selected insured amount and size of the scar:

Ersättningstabell vid medicinsk invaliditet

Försäkringsbeloppet och skadans omfattning påverkar den ersättning du får om du drabbas av medicinsk invaliditet.

Så här räknar du ut vilken ersättning som lämnas utifrån valt försäkringsbelopp och invaliditetsgrad:

Calculation example

  • If the established level of invalidity is 35 per cent, this gives 54.6 per cent of the insured amount. If the insured amount is SEK 1 000 000, this would result in compensation of SEK 546 000.
